I am sorry to announce that tomorrow, Friday, March 13 will be our last day to hold bridge games. I am not a doctor, nurse or scientist, however I have been talking to them and reading articles from experts who have sterling credentials. Based on what happened in China and what is happening in Italy, they are predicting that the next month is going to be very difficult for the USA.
As of the last few days, all major sports leagues have closed down. Broadway and Disney Land have announced closures. As of this evening, the ACBL has cancelled the Spring NABCs scheduled next week for Columbus. Ohio.
I am convinced that closing is best for our players and directors. Although we may not be able to stop the spread of the virus, many experts believe that we can reduce the speed by social distancing. If you are interested in details check out “Flatten the Curve“
What is next? I plan to be closed at least through the end of March. How soon we reopen will depend on expert recommendations. Our change of rank party is currently scheduled for Monday, April 6. I hope we can be open by then. I am sure the DBAA will allow us to reschedule if necessary.
The Lebensohl class for Saturday is postponed. A new date will be announced as soon as we know when we will reopen. If you would like a refund mailed to you, please let me know.
I am currently exploring ways to have a daily tournament on Bridge Base Online for our players and will share that information as soon as possible. In the meantime, send me your BBO user name. If you have never played on BBO and want to learn more, here is a guide for new players.
Thank you all very much for your patronage.. I hope we will all be playing bridge again very soon at the BCA. Until then, please be safe.
